KillrVideo: Data Modeling Evolved (Patrick McFadin, Datastax)
Slides: https://www.slideshare.net/DataStax/a-look-at-the-cql-changes-in-3x-benjamin-lerer-datastax-cassandra-summit-2016 | In 2012 I presented my first version of the KillrVideo video sharing site and a data model was born! Many things have happened to Cassandra since then and as a result, the data model for KillrVideo has evolved. The transition from Thrift to CQL was the first big shift. From Cassandra 2 to 3 we have seen some major usability enhancements to CQL that have reduced the complexity on the application developer. Indexing changes. Denormalization help. Syntax changes in the select queries. Storage engine changes that has eliminated anti-patterns. A lot to talk about in a constantly evolving project like Apache Cassandra. Don't get left behind! About the Speaker Patrick McFadin Chief Evangelist, DataStax Patrick McFadin is one of the leading experts of Apache Cassandra and data modeling techniques. As the Chief Evangelist for Apache Cassandra and consultant for DataStax, he has helped build some of the largest and exciting deployments in production.
