Swift: the mobile language that's coming to the cloud by Ian Partridge

Swift is a new programming language from Apple, designed to be the future of development on iOS. But did you know it is open source, and runs on Linux too? Join this talk to learn why server-side Swift is the new hot topic. We'll talk about how the latest Swift 3 release brings improved performance, functionality and productivity to Swift, and how Swift is a great fit for the cloud. There are new web frameworks written in Swift, such as Kitura. Learn how to get started with your first Swift web app, and how to join the growing open source Swift community. Ian Partridge is a senior developer at Swift@IBM, working to bring Swift to the cloud on Linux. With a background in runtime technologies including Java garbage collection, performance and monitoring he is now working in open source on server-side Swift. Since learning Swift he has contributed to open source Foundation and libdispatch, and is also a developer of Kitura, a Swift HTTP server and web framework. He is an experienced speaker who most recently presented at SwiftConf Cologne and Swift London about the future of Swift on Linux. [XLQ-1296]
