Introduction to Smith-Waterman – An accurate DNA sequencing algorithm - Adam Gaidi - NDC Oslo 2023

The Smith-Waterman algorithm is a dynamic programming approach to sequence alignment, and is used for DNA-sequencing in the field of computational biology. DNA-sequencing is an effective tool that helps analyze and combat viral diseases. Computational accuracy is of high importance in this field, which is something the Smith-Waterman algorithm delivers, as it is guaranteed to find the optimal local alignment. The talk will give an introduction to how the algorithm works and present an alternative use case for sequence alignment algorithms such as the Smith-Waterman algorithm.
