This session dives into a not so well known part of tech, the life and times of the Editorial Developer. Collecting and churning information, and presenting the results to millions of readers -- it’s challenging *and* fun. Jonas and Einar have been entangled in all that is journalism for a number of years. They have tracked abusers across the globe, made historical documentaries, illustrated breaking news events and helped bring the focus on women’s health. This talk will explore this work -- the design choices, ethical conundrums, and (mostly) responsible use of innovative technology -- which has reached millions of readers. They’ll talk GPU shader optimization, Blender automation, getting forests to render on granny’s phone, open data sources, failed ventures, color schemes, burnouts and rebounds. The goal is to inspire, if only a little bit, and perhaps spark interesting conversations down the road!
