At the end of the day, applications and services require plain-text credentials, and organizations require a central store for those secrets. Like Chef, HashiCorp Vault is a free and open source tool for secrets management, but organizations often struggle to find the balance between Vault and Chef for secrets management. In addition to providing a high-level overview of HashiCorp Vault, this demo-driven talk details techniques for retrieving secrets from Vault using Chef by bridging the gap between runtime and build time data.
