Modern SQL: A lot has changed in 24 years by Markus Winand
SQL seems to have gone out of fashion lately—partly due to the NoSQL movement, but mostly because SQL is still used like 20 years ago. As a matter of fact, SQL continued to evolve during the past decades resulting in the current standard of 2011. In this session, we will go through the most important additions since the widely known SQL-92 and explain how the new features work in common use-cases. Among others, we will see how to organize complex queries for better maintainability, how to use analytic functions to calculate running totals, rankings and median. Finally we will have a quick look at the so-called temporal features of SQL:2011 that allow you to query data “as of” a specific time.
